Lithium Fire – Monday 22 July 2024

Lithium Fire – Monday 22 July 2024

Dear Members,

We have been advised by a member his electric buggy lithium battery caught fire over the weekend . Fortunately, they and the Fire Department were able to manage the situation to limit damages.

We want to reiterate the importance of your own risk mitigation.  The following will help reduce risks and better control the outcome if a fire occurs:

  • Do not leave unsupervised, always turn off before going to bed or leaving the house.
  • Ensure it is in a well-ventilated area, with nothing around that is flammable.  If a fire does occur, will the surrounds be easily managed.
  • Ensure storage is not in hot environment.
  • Do not use if there is risk of any damage to the equipment.

Fires from lithium batterers occur rarely however, there has been significant golf club fires on the East Coast, whilst now a member of ours has experienced a fire, which we are glad they were able to manage it very well.

It is important all members are aware and remain vigilant on their own risk management.

Regards
Grant Shortland-Jones
