Swapping Nines – Monday 19 August 2024

Swapping Nines – Monday 19 August 2024

Dear Members.

After a detailed process, I’m pleased to announce the nines have now been swapped over.

This will benefit play and overall flow of the course with the additional advantages below.

  • Better flow starting from a par 4 then to a par 5, 4,4. Rather than par 3,4,3.
  • Visibility for Pro Shop operations of the 1st tee
  • The 18th hole now finishing directly in front of the clubhouse bar
  • Green Fee players who default to start from the 1st tee won’t run into crossovers and disrupt play

A big thanks to our Director of Facilities, John Benbow, who has put a lot of time and effort into the change with his group of volunteers.

The tombstones look great and enhance the overall appearance on course.

The MiScore App and the printing of scorecards reflect the change of nines.

Regards,

Todd Bergersen

Saturday Members Competition for 17 August 2024

Dear Members.

Please be aware of the playing conditions for this Saturday given the weather forecast. No carts will be available on course for the day’s play.
If you intend to play on Saturday, please check the timesheet before leaving home, as we will keep the timesheet updated on the status of play.

The forecast is for severe thunderstorms, including lightening. Minimum rainfall is predicted at 30mm, but up to 50mm, so this is an extreme weather day which needs to be monitored for playing conditions.

Regards,

Todd Bergersen
Golf Manager

Course Care – Monday 12 August 2024

Course Care – Monday 12 August 2024

Dear Members,

Around the course you will see a number of areas roped off, with no access for driving or parking past these points.  After a number of polite communications and requests for people to avoid wear areas, and stay well away from green complexes, this is now a necessity.

Not only does protecting these core areas mean a quicker recovery after winter, many of these areas are “in play”, and therefore protecting them gives far better surfaces to play golf on.

It is not possible to stop every person from driving where they shouldn’t.  Also, we can’t educate every player individually, member or non-member.  The majority of our traffic is members, and if we all follow the correct approach, the course condition will improve greatly.

This is not just cart traffic, but walking and push buggies as well.  Please see below some examples of the issues.  Or keep an eye out when you move around the course of areas players have traversed without a conscious thought of course care.

These issues do not occur as much in the warmer months, because the grass grows more strongly.  The couch grass is currently dormant, so most wear areas cannot recover.  Obviously we want to present the course at it’s best for the WA Open.  If we all move with some care around the course, we can improve playing surfaces for every game.

2nd Tee Box. All traffic parks as close as they can to the tee box. There is so much room to the right to stop or park.
There is 40m of width to spread traffic wear, yet most of the traffic moves as close as they can to the barries of the bunker or hoops.
Similar on the 4th, we continue to move the hoops, yet people pass as close as they can, causing wear. Yet to the right, no traffic wear at all.
15th Tee Box. Players take buggies and congregate as close to the tee box as possible, and don’t consider parking just an extra 5m away.
Monday after Sunday night heavy rains. Obvious flooding and water damage, yet traffic driving straight through the middle as seen by tyre marks. All traffic over wet areas causes damage.
